Changes at ODI Toronto

It’s a super interesting time for open data. As smart cities, machine learning, and big data keep growing, open data is being used in a range of new ways, and the need to increase data literacy levels for civic participation with data is as urgent as ever. And so it’s exciting to share some news about the new thinking that will be driving our work here at the Open Data Institute Toronto. I’m extremely happy to say that Andi Argast will be leading the way for our work and leading the organization from here on out as our new Director.

Andi’s background in information science, government, and the non-profit sector have informed much of her work with us on data and digital literacy over the past few years. I can imagine that the perspective she brings from her work in these realms provides a good idea of where ODI Toronto may be headed from here on out. And it’s a great direction to imagine.

I’ll be stepping down but will be around and will continue to work with Kejo and Andi through Andi’s leadership on future open data adventures. I can’t wait to see where Andi will take us, and I am grateful to her and Kejo for continuing this volunteer work of ours in the continuously evolving areas of  open data, public education, and civic engagement in Toronto. Onwards!
